Winter is on our doorstep; time to pull out those extra blankets and look up healthy hearty winter meals to keep you smiling throughout the colder days. There are studies that show that we naturally gain more weight in winter, but this doesn’t necessarily need to be the case. There are many healthy foods that keep the weight off, while keeping you warmer than other foods would.

It’s important to check what foods are allowed on your specific diet, so you should consult your wellness professional first before trying any of these.

Start Your Day with Oats

Sugar-free oats is a great way to start the day. Cooked oats is nice and warm, so it will give you an extra boost of heat before you have to brave the cold outside. It can also be mixed with multiple other ingredients, so breakfast is never boring! Consider mixing your oats with cinnamon and banana. Banana boosts the function of the thyroid and adrenal glands, in turn helping you boost your body temperature.

Soup it Up

Soup is so versatile; you can add just about anything to it and heat it in the microwave when you’re ready to eat. Hearty soups that have red meat in them will boost your iron levels which are important for regulating body temperature efficiently. Alternatively, a lovely chicken soup can boost your immune system, while warming your whole body.

Scrumptious Sweet Potatoes

Better than their carbohydrate cousins, sweet potatoes are roots that can be enjoyed in a number of ways. They require more energy to digest, thereby raising your body’s temperature. They are also full of fibre, vitamins and essential minerals.

Your Favourite Hot Drink

A great way to heat up during the day if you don’t feel like a meal is to drink a hot cup of tea or coffee. Caffeinated drinks like regular tea and coffee stimulate your metabolism, and boost your body temperature by raising your heart rate. Avoid additives like sugar and milk, if you can. Sweeteners are a great alternative to sugar.
