What Are 3 Basic Ways to Cook Eggs?

Eggs are considered a superfood because of their wealth of nutrients, but that’s not the only factor to love about them! Eggs are extremely versatile in the kitchen, and can be used in just about any meal, at any time of the day. They make for healthy snacks, and have even been put under the spotlight for their own crash diet known as the ‘Egg Diet Plan’. Slender Wonder takes a more balanced approach by incorporating multiple food groups into our weight loss programme to ensure that your lifestyle is maintainable and keeps up the healthy weight.

We do, however, advocate the power of eggs, and fully appreciate how they can be made to suit just about any taste (and we don’t mean adding them into cake!).

What Are the Different Ways to Cook Eggs?

To include eggs in your diet, you should know how you like them best, to enjoy them to their fullest!

Making Hardboiled Eggs

A hardboiled egg is one of the simplest foods to make and is versatile on its own. Fill a pot with enough water to cover your egg/s by about two inches. Keeping the eggs separate at first, bring the water to a boil and gently place the eggs into the bubbling pot. Leave them for approximately 10-12 minutes, drain the water, leave them to cool and de-shell them. You can use boiled eggs in your favourite salad, crumbled over some healthy snacks or even as is in your lunch box!

How to Make Omelettes

Omelettes are amazing for breakfasts, lunches and dinners. They can be filled with just about anything from savoury mince, to mushrooms and fresh avocadoes – the sky is the limit! Whip up some eggs (you can separate them to be white only – another even healthier option) and let them cook in an olive oil-coated hot pan on the stove. Pour the eggs in (the amount depends on your programme) and allow them to bubble. Flip the omelette over and fill it with your healthy filling of choice!

How to Make Poached Eggs

Poached eggs are healthy additions to breakfasts and famous for eggs benedict. To make these, there are simple steps to follow:

  1. Pour boiling water into a shallow pot or frying pan, to about 3cm deep. Allow the water to simmer.
  2. Crack each egg into a cup, then gently tip the egg into the water.
  3. Allow the egg to simmer for 2 minutes for soft eggs, 4 minutes for medium eggs, and 6 minutes for hard poached eggs.
  4. Carefully remove the poached egg with a slotted spoon and serve immediately.
