“I stood one evening with a hand full of chronic medication and thought, ‘This is not the way I want to grow old.”
When you meet Lorraine Esterhuizen, it’s impossible not to be inspired by her energy, determination, and honesty. Living in Pretoria, Lorraine leads an active lifestyle, training five days a week with cross-training workouts and joining weekend Park Runs. But her transformation didn’t happen overnight—it began with a powerful decision, a deep desire for change, and the support of a proven program: Slender Wonder.
Lorraine’s Slender Wonder journey began in 2017 after hearing a radio ad. At the time, she weighed 139kg and was battling high blood pressure, cholesterol, and insulin resistance. One evening, holding a handful of chronic medications, she had a moment of clarity:
“I decided this is not the way I want to grow old.”
She joined Dr. Snyman in Heidelberg, lost an impressive 28kg, and adopted a more active lifestyle. But like many journeys, hers wasn’t linear.
In early 2024, Lorraine’s best friend passed away. In her grief, she turned to food for comfort and gained almost 10kg. During a fitness challenge in May, she weighed in at 119.8kg—and realized she was undoing all her previous hard work.
She made a bold decision:
“I decided to rejoin Slender Wonder—not for a huge transformation this time, but just to lose 10kg and reset.”
She lost 21.1kg in 4 months.
What was the hardest part?
“The hunger! Especially during the Simeon B phase. I literally wanted to eat my desk some days.”
But she persisted. With the support of her trainer, her Slender Wonder Brooklyn team, and her fitness group, Lorraine kept going. She says the scale dropping was a huge motivator, and so was Dr. Kok, who supported her emotionally and medically—especially with her PTSD.
Lorraine is now four months into maintenance—and still dropping body fat. Her energy is up, her fitness has skyrocketed, and she has no intention of slipping back into old habits.
“I play with my grandkids, I wore a swimsuit at the beach without shame, and I went on the rides at uShaka Marine World—something I never did when my own kids were little.”
Lorraine has already signed up for a cross-training competition and the Muddy Princess obstacle race. She continues to weigh herself three times a week, visits Slender Wonder every two months, and stays accountable.
Her motivation?
“I’m not going back. This is my lifestyle now.”
Her Advice to Others, “Do it for yourself—not for anyone else. The beginning is tough, but it gets easier. Stick it out. It’s so worth it!”
Lorraine believes that what sets Slender Wonder apart is its structure, support, and sustainability. It’s not a fad, t’s not a quick fix, it’s a guided, doctor-supported program that empowers you to take control of your health.
“My cholesterol dropped. My energy is up. And I’ve dropped the weight I never thought I could.”
If she had to describe her journey in one word?
“Rewarding.”
“To feel better, to see people’s reactions, to be free in your own body—there’s nothing like it.”
Thinking of Starting Your Journey?
Because like Lorraine says, “Take the bull by the horns. Book the appointment. Know the book, and just do it.”
“The weight is history—but your life is just beginning.”
